COCO & CHLOE'S STORY

Coco and Chloe have been adopted by their wonderful foster parents. We are thrilled that they have a permanent home with so much love. They have come a long ways in the last year since rescue! This was their story written by the foster family a couple of months before adoption:

Coco and Chloe are two lovely one-year-old females. They have flowered like cacti after a long drought. They've been with us for only a few months and every day, with our encouragement, they try something new. Having spent most of their young lives with limited human interaction, they are discovering that while humans can be scary, they can also be a source of great pleasure.

Coco is the serious one. We sometimes call her Owl, for her slow blinks and her tendency to disappear in a dark room. She is not easily impressed, so she makes a big impression when she decides to play or to seek affection.

Chloe is a Chloe, although sometimes she makes us think of Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby as well. She loves to play and plays with the vigour of a kitten!

They are very close to each other which is not surprising considering they have had to rely on each other for comfort and entertainment. They love playing together and watching them is like watching WWF wrestling – incredible acrobatics but nobody gets hurt! And when the world of humans becomes a little too much for them, if you carefully approach one of their refuge spots, you will find them cuddled so close it is hard to tell who is who.

While they don't mind being left alone, these girls will do best with a two-person family where both people are willing to invest a bit of time each day in actively interacting with them. We have found it a bit overwhelming when there's just one person, because they will compete for affection. Also, because they spent a long time un-socialized, they do have a tendency to regress a bit if we get too busy. However they do not require huge amounts of time, just consistency and gentleness. We suspect they may have been kicked or had things thrown at them in their early days, as quick movements can still frighten them quite a bit.

If you truly enjoy the company of cats and are willing to take on the responsibility of mindful interaction with them, Coco and Chloe will enrich your lives immensely because they too are aware of the rewards of that interaction and are so appreciative of the effort."
