HENRIETTA'S STORY

Being a white cat, Henrietta had a problem caused by being outside in the sun.  She developed cancer of the ear margins and when rescued had horribly diseased ears.  She underwent surgery and had a painful recovery period.

She recovered slowly but surely and was left with a particularly exotic look!  No other cats looked like Henrietta.  She was quite unique and had a certain “otter-like” shape to her head.  She was our “earless one” and everyone loved her.  She had the softest pure white fur and was very cuddly.

The first few months she was very uncertain about trusting people but over time became very sociable.  She loved to sit in laps and had many visitors.

She had two wonderful foster homes.  One was with a woman who loved her but had extreme allergies and couldn’t keep her.  The other was with a very loving couple, but poor Henrietta was on a new diet and had a severe reaction and had to come back to the rescue.

Henrietta lived most of her life here in “the book room”, a room full of big bookshelves and comfy chairs.  At first she went on top of the bookcases, then snuggled into a lower shelf on some cushy pink pillows.  Later she spent her mornings on the love seat and her afternoons on an antique footstool in the sunny window.

Sometimes she had roommates – always a very laid-back mellow male cat who would let her be the boss.  During her last year she preferred to be alone with only human visitors.

Henrietta had a food allergy and would occasionally get open sores on her head.  She needed hypoallergenic food and occasional medication.  She had many good times but then inevitably some dips when her allergies flared up.

For a long while she seemed very healthy – in fact, robust!  She had thick and luxurious white fur and loved petting and being brushed.  Once she knew someone she was very affectionate and didn’t want them to leave.  In fact, in her last six months she had become a SUPER big cuddler!!!!

Then in the spring of 2010, a couple of years after her rescue, she began to gradually “slow down” and we had to say goodbye to her after a very sudden and drastic dip in her health which was considered to be cancer.  Henrietta was the favorite of many visitors and had a lot of close human friends.  No cat can ever take her place as there will never be another like our dear exotic and warm Henrietta…
