CAT OF THE YEAR: 2011
"
Cheddar" is our success story of the year.  He was adopted by a wonderful woman who understands his gentle soul.  He is progressing rapidly beyond our greatest hopes.  For many months here in the beginning he wouldn't even lift his little head and now he actually comes up to greet his new "mom" and loves cuddling and sleeping with her.  The adoption of Cheddar is the most heart-warming event of our year of 2011 especially as he was adopted on New Year's Eve. <more...>

Elements Compounding Pharmacy
at 3540 Blanshard St. in Victoria (near Pacific Cat Clinic & Save-On Foods) is very supportive of our rescue efforts.  They have our catnip mice for sale and also have a coin donation box for us. They can also accept larger donations for us and for those of $10 or more we will send a tax receipt.  The pharmacy staff is very friendly and helpful, so please stop by.  Also, bring your prescriptions for yourself and your pets!!

Thank you for visiting our website!  We have many kitties who need quiet indoor-only foster homes.  If you wish to consider this or adopting, please call us as there are more cats than on the website.  Please also click on our Facebook button on the right where you will see over 500 photos and videos of our cats and stories about them.

Dedicated volunteers (not paid employees) run Helping Homeless Cats rescue and cats are kept in foster homes until adoption.  For food, supplies and vet care, we depend on your donations made by mailing a cheque or using our Pay Pal donation page or CanadaHelps.org donation page. Helping Homeless Cats of Greater Victoria Society was formed in 2009 for the purpose of rescuing abandoned domestic cats and helping feral cats.  Our goal is to find good foster and permanent homes for cats we have rescued so we can help more cats in the future.  When possible, we maintain long-term foster homes for seniors, low income families, and those on disability.  We rely heavily on donations from supporters in order to help cats in desperate need of food, shelter, and medical care.  Donations also allow us to maintain our foster homes which greatly benefit not only the cats but also the people who love them.

All cats in our care have received:  spay/neuter, shots, flea treatment, deworming, veterinary exam, and FIV testing if deemed necessary.  Medical treatment is provided when needed.  We greatly appreciate donations for medical care, such as when a senior cat needs life-saving dental work.  Before adoption, potential adopters are welcome to have blood tests done at their own expense to more completely assess the cat’s health status.

Our domestic cats are available for adoption and fostering to INDOOR-only non-smoking homes.  We have cats of all ages, including one-year-old cats to middle-age.  We love the seniors and have several sweet cats around 8 or 10.  We also have older affectionate seniors and many lovely shy young cats who are available for sponsoring and visiting as they need help gaining trust of humans.  We seek sponsors to donate monthly to their ongoing care since they have a longer road to adoption.

We maintain a foster program where cats live in loving homes while awaiting permanent adoption.  We have a special long-term foster program for seniors where the cat is not up for adoption.  We feel it is very important that if a cat has bonded with the retired senior and enjoys full-time love and attention, then it is best for both of them that the cat be kept with them.  Assistance with care is provided.

We trap, spay/neuter, and provide shots, flea treatment, deworming, vet exam, and vet care for feral cats and release them to their original location where a feeding source is available.

All our cats are adopted to INDOORS non-smoking homes only.  See the links under “adoption” in the About Us section which explain in great detail why indoors homes are best.
